SMHS Hoop’n It Tournament info & Rules

Age: 14 or older.
Teams: 20

Location: ALL games will all be at SMHS gym. 

 

Rules and Regulations:
*Game is over when: First team scores 30 points. In event of a tie teams must win by 2 points. No games shall exceed 35 points.
*Players: Each team shall consist of three or more players.
*Start of Game: A quarter flip will be used. The losing team will then begin on defense.
*Possession: There are no jump balls at any time in the game. In any held ball situation, possession is alternated between teams.
If the defense gains possession of the ball within the arc, by a steal, a block or a rebound, the team must move the ball behind the arc before being allowed to take a shot.
*Points: Every successful shot inside the arc is awarded 2 points, while every successful shot behind the arc is awarded 3 points.
*Game Play: The game play begins with a team taking the ball to either side of the basket and then passing it in, the team must move the ball behind the arc before being allowed to take a shot.
This exchange is also used to restart the game from any dead ball situation.
After a made goal, play restarts with a player from the non-scoring team taking the ball to either side of the basket and then passing it in, the team must move the ball behind the arc before being allowed to take a shot.
Each team is allowed 2, 30 second time-outs.
*Fouls: After 6 fouls, each foul will result in 2 free throws with no rebounds.
Defense calls fouls, if there is a disagreement then the ball will be awarded to the offense, then the defense in alternating fashion.
*Substitutions: Can be made only by entering from behind the end line (Half Court) opposite the basket, and the substitution becomes official once the player leaving the game has made physical contact with the substitute.
*Dress Code: This event is a function of the SMHS and as such all teams are required to wear long pants and sleeved t-shirts. Players will not be allowed to play until they are appropriately dressed.
*Player Eligibility: Players that have not played in a minimum of 2 round robin games will not be eligible for bracket play.
